Ward 1 Park Improvements

1. Masseygrove Park serving Jamestown had a basketball court, pathways, lighting and an attractive garden bed installed. Followed by an illuminated soccer field, Junior/Senior playground equipment, an upgraded parking lot, and naturalization plantings. $1 million of retrofit was provided at Elmbank Community Centre.
2. Smithfield Park had benches and a skateboard park installed. Improvements were made to the outdoor pool, along with naturalization planting and tree planting.
3. a) Highfield, b) Plowshare, c) Silverstone and d) Kay Parks received benches at the request of seniors.
4. Colony Park had lighting installed and naturalization plantings.
5. Gihon Springs Park, with two schools backing onto it, received basketball pads, playground equipment, benches, pathways and plantings.
6. North Kipling Park, serving the apartments on Kipling, received senior playground equipment provided by Toronto District School Board (TDSB). The City installed a basketball court, senior seating area and enhanced planting. North Kipling Community Centre had the bocce court enclosed.
7. Haimer Park received pathways, lighting, new playground equipment and plantings.
8. North Humber Park, serving the Kipling and Steeles area, had a complete overhaul with a splash pad, playground equipment, baseball diamond, mini soccer pitch, picnic tables, benches, pathways, shelter and plantings. The community provided their Input and support for the design.
9. Thistletown Multi-Service Centre (TMSC) is a well-used facility that I was instrumental in obtaining for the community. Beginning in 2000, I helped negotiate a renewed lease with the TDSB that brought in $l million of retrofit, including a new elevator. A basketball pad was installed in the small park behind the Centre and the City partnered in the junior daycare playground installation ensuring after-hours use for the community. There is also a junior soccer field on site.
10. Beaumonde Heights Park, a substantial number of trees were planted.  A new bridge has been constructed over the river.

11. Albion Gardens Park received a switchback pathway to replace a steep cement stairwell that was declared a health and safety risk. Junior/Senior playground equipment and plantings were installed.
12. Attercliffe Court, an access pathway was improved to allow carriages and bicycles easy entry to the bicycle path.
13. Humberline Finch Park, the soccer field was irrigated and upgraded and a number of trees planted.
14. Humberline Park, a basketball pad was installed when nearby apartment basketball nets were removed. Benches, picnic tables and a drinking fountain were provided along with some tree planting.
15. Tamarisk Park, new junior and senior playground equipment.

We are on our way to achieving the improvements outlined in the North Rexdale Parks Redevelopment Study for the benefit of all residents.
